Argumentative Essay Topics For LGBT Students
Argumentative Essay Topics For LGBT StudentsArgumentative essay topics for LGBT students have been a topic of much controversy, and often, heated debate. Some people, including myself, feel that the focus on these topics is excessive. We feel that discussing these issues and showing a different perspective on them will help LGBT students learn to be more comfortable in their own skin, and not let the constant negativity of their peers and the media keep them from learning.Despite the many arguments that I have heard, I have found arguments about argumentative essay topics for LGBT students to be rather weak. I have personally taken issue with statements such as, 'Gay is a natural part of life.' Personally, I don't believe that there is such a thing as a natural part of life. I believe that there are an infinite number of different things that can be considered natural, and I feel that these kinds of statements do nothing to help with one's self-esteem, but do nothing to help students discover their true personality. In addition, some suggest that one can use Mysogny Therapy to improve one's self-esteem. This therapy is based on the idea that a person's personality is represented by a series of scales that are put on a chart. The scales are not meant to show true traits or personalities, but rather, are used to show how one feels about themselves. If one is happy, they look on the scale as happy, and if they are sad, they look at the scale as sad. These scales are then turned around, and the results are viewed by the therapist. For argumentative essay topics for LGBT students, I feel that it is more important that the student understand that he or she does not necessarily have to be happy. While there is certainly nothing wrong with being sad, I do feel that there is a vast difference between being sad and being depressed. Being depressed is extremely debilitating and can cause a person to do terrible things, and even kill themselves, just so they can be happy. I believe that the fact that an individual is dealing with depression should be addressed at the beginning of a conversation, instead of at the end. Many other people have been very outspoken against using Mysogny as a therapy to overcome being gay, since this form of therapy is based on the belief that they are not truly who they are. However, it is possible that gay people have more self-esteem than other people because they are less socially accepted. Even though it may be difficult to convince people that you are not homosexual, you can still be gay without accepting it.However, the argument that I feel most strongly against, when discussing argumentative essay topics for LGBT students, is the idea that saying that gay people are wrong or unnatural, will change their minds. It is no secret that prejudice is a strong factor in the lives of LGBT students. If a student thinks that the world is unjust, they are likely to do anything they can to make it just. While discrimination does e xist, it is not always fair, and the LGBT student should not have to pay the price just to be accepted.I know that there are many people who feel that the discussion of the oppression of LGBT people should be avoided. I am aware that many, including myself, do not want to get into a dialogue with someone who is trying to persuade us that we should be happy. However, the reality is that many different people who are being oppressed feel that their opinion of life is more important than that of the majority. And, we should be thankful that they have the ability to speak out, because if we did not live in a democracy, many of them would be silenced.Arguing over argumentative essay topics for LGBT students is an inevitable part of the social landscape. However, we must not allow ourselves to be intimidated by people who would try to tell us that we are wrong about our beliefs. We must remember that even if they convince us, we are still living in a democracy, and that they are free to b elieve whatever they like.
